Uttar Pradesh : The Prayagraj airport will be rejuvenated before the Mahakumbh-2025. Yogi Adityanath government plans to connect Kumbh city Prayagraj with different cities of the country by air. From air connectivity to expansion of terminal and number of flights, Prayagraj airport has left behind the airports of many cities.
Airport will be redeveloped at a cost of ₹175 crore
Prayagraj Airport is being rejuvenated keeping in view the convenience of tourists and devotees coming from other countries in the Maha Kumbh to be held in Prayagraj in 2025. According to Airport Director RR Pandey, the government plans to redevelop the airport at a cost of ₹175 crore in view of the Maha Kumbh. Work has already started for this. Its tender process will also be completed next month.
There will be expansion in the number of passenger boarding bridge
The Passenger Boarding Bridge connects the aircraft doors to the airport terminal. With the expansion of flight movement in the airport, it becomes necessary to increase the number of passenger boarding bridges. Pramod Kumar Singh, Deputy General Manager of Prayagraj Airport, says that at present the number of aerobridges from Prayagraj Airport is 2. Their number will increase to 6 before Mahakumbh. After this expansion of Prayagraj Airport, it will become the first airport in UP with 6 aerobridges.
Air connectivity will be expanded
There has been continuous expansion of air connectivity of Kumbh city Prayagraj to various cities of the country. After Lucknow and Varanasi, Prayagraj Airport has now reached the third position in terms of flights and passenger movement. RR Pandey, director of Prayagraj Airport, says that currently 24 domestic flights operate from this airport to 12 cities. After the expansion plan, their number will also increase from 12 to more than 16 till Maha Kumbh. The number of passengers traveling by air from here is also increasing daily. Last year 5,48310 had traveled by air from Prayagraj Airport. In this way, the number of passengers is increasing every year by more than one lakh. Prayagraj Airport has achieved an important position in terms of increasing the number of passengers every month and every year and at present it is at the third position in the state.
The number of terminals and aprons will increase in the airport
Prayagraj Airport currently has one terminal whose area is 6700 square meters. At present, 320 passengers can sit here. Under the expansion plan, a new airport terminal building of 9500 sqm is also being constructed, which will have a seating capacity of 500. In this way, the capacity of this place will be 820 passengers till Mahakumbh. Keeping in view the environmental protection standards in the new terminal building, solar energy will be used in the entire building. Apart from this, there is a plan to increase the capacity of Prayagraj Airport’s apron to 15 aircraft.
