New Delhi : Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT Ashwini Vaishnaw chaired a review meeting with senior officials at Rail Bhawan today. Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh Bittu also joined the discussions.
Local Cuisine to Be Served on Vande Bharat Trains
The Minister directed railway officials to introduce regional food options on Vande Bharat trains. Passengers will soon be able to enjoy dishes that reflect the local culture and flavors of the areas they travel through. This initiative aims to enhance onboard dining experiences and will gradually be extended to other trains across the country.
Crackdown on Fake Ticketing Accounts
Vaishnaw highlighted the success of Indian Railways’ recent reforms in tackling fake ticket bookings. A stricter verification system has been rolled out on the IRCTC platform to detect and block fraudulent IDs.
- Before reforms, nearly 1 lakh new user IDs were being created daily.
- Now, only about 5,000 genuine IDs are added each day.
- So far, 3.03 crore fake accounts have been deactivated.
- Another 2.7 crore suspicious IDs have been suspended or flagged for misuse.
Ensuring Genuine Access for Travellers
Both ministers emphasized that the ticketing system must be reformed to ensure easy and fair access for all passengers. The goal is to make sure every traveler books tickets using a verified, authentic user ID, eliminating loopholes exploited by touts and fake accounts.
