New Delhi : In a major boost to India’s defence preparedness, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, approved acquisition proposals worth approximately ₹79,000 crore during its meeting at South Block, New Delhi on October 23, 2025. The approvals span across the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, strengthening operational capabilities and promoting indigenous defence production.
Indian Army: Enhanced Firepower and Mobility
The DAC granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for the procurement of:
- Nag Missile System (Tracked) Mk-II (NAMIS): Designed to neutralize enemy combat vehicles, bunkers, and fortifications.
- Ground-Based Mobile ELINT System (GBMES): Enables 24/7 electronic intelligence gathering of enemy emitters.
- High Mobility Vehicles (HMVs) with Material Handling Cranes: Improves logistics and mobility across varied terrains.
These additions will significantly enhance the Army’s tactical edge and logistical efficiency.
Indian Navy: Amphibious and Anti-Piracy Capabilities
For the Navy, AoN was approved for:
- Landing Platform Docks (LPDs): Facilitates amphibious operations and joint missions with the Army and Air Force, including peacekeeping and disaster relief.
- 30mm Naval Surface Guns (NSGs): Strengthens low-intensity maritime operations and anti-piracy efforts.
- Advanced Lightweight Torpedoes (ALWTs): Developed by DRDO’s NSTL, capable of targeting conventional, nuclear, and midget submarines.
- Electro Optical Infra-Red Search and Track Systems
- Smart Ammunition for 76mm Super Rapid Gun Mounts
These procurements will bolster the Navy’s multi-dimensional warfare capabilities and maritime security posture.
Indian Air Force: Autonomous Strike Systems
The Air Force received AoN for the Collaborative Long Range Target Saturation/Destruction System (CLRTS/DS), a cutting-edge platform capable of:
- Autonomous take-off and landing
- Navigation and target detection
- Precision payload delivery in mission zones
This system represents a leap in autonomous aerial warfare and strategic reach.
