Cyclone Montha to Hit Andhra Pradesh: IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Alert

Andhra Pradesh/ New Delhi : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that Cyclone Montha is approaching the Andhra Pradesh coast, expected to make landfall between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam near Kakinada on Tuesday evening, October 28, 2025. The storm is predicted to bring extremely heavy rainfall, strong winds, and the risk of coastal flooding.

Local authorities have begun emergency preparations, with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and state disaster teams being deployed to vulnerable districts. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, and residents in low-lying regions are being relocated to safer shelters.

Officials say that this could be one of the strongest storms to hit the state this year. The IMD cyclone warning includes alerts for gusty winds exceeding 120 km/h, heavy to very heavy rainfall, and potential storm surges along coastal villages.

Impact expected:

  • Disruptions to road and rail connectivity across the coastal belt.
  • Possible power outages and communication blackouts.
  • Agricultural losses, particularly in paddy and horticulture crops.

The state government has urged citizens to follow safety advisories, stock up on essentials, and avoid unnecessary travel.
